The jaws of all are red with gore

2022 / Performance

A collaboration between Maria Silk (Silk Worm), movement artist Frank Leasing, and butoh legend Hiroko Tamano, The jaws of all are red with gore explores the classic cartoon series Looney Tunes as an anthology of hunting myths. The show reimagines Elmer Fudd and Bugs Bunny’s charged relationship, using performance techniques from drag and butoh to reanimate timeless archetypes of hunter and rabbit, predator and prey and craft choreographic tableaus of bouncing bunnies and wild goose chases, flickering by like changing channels on a TV.

The jaws of all are red with gore asks: What happens when you put Saturday morning cartoons under the microscope? What can Looney Tunes tell us about violence, seduction, and present-day America?

What is up, Doc?
